Biosketch: Associate Professor Per Holmberg

Holmberg is Associate Professor at the Department of Swedish Language. He specializes in research on writing and written texts in school contexts, and has been particularly interested in developing socio-semiotic models for this research, as well as in introducing such models in teaching practice for the scaffolding of student learning. One side of his research concerns linguistic problems such as the description of the interpersonal grammatical resources of Swedish. But he is also doing classroom research in cooperation with teachers. Holmberg is coordinator of the national research network for Swedish and Educational Studies (Svenska med didaktisk inriktning).

Current research activities

Holmberg is currently engaged in studies of writing in the school context within the following two projects:

  • Text Activities and Development of Knowledge in School, funded by the Swedish Research Council
  • Language and Content Integrated Learning in Swedish Schools, funded by the Swedish Research Council
