Biosketch: Assoc. Prof. Anna Nordenstam

Anna Nordenstam is Associate Professor of Comparative Literature at the Department of Literature, Historical Studies at the University of Gothenburg. Nordenstam’s research has been done in the field of literary historiography, life writing (letters) and women's magazines. She has also been specializing in child and adolescent fiction. She has recently published the book From fables to the manga. Literature History and didactic perspective in children's literature (2010), (together with Boglind). She is interested in the research on literature education, gender issues and intersectionality.

Current research activity

Nordenstam is currently working with the research project "Gender and Science. The Development of Women's Literature Studies, in Sweden 1965–1985", financied by Vetenskapsrådet (2008–2011)

The purpose of the project Gender and Science is to map and analyze the growth of women's literature studies in Sweden during 1965–1985. The project also gives a view into the Nordic region. The project claims to examine the definition of such studies, and whether or not they encompass a specific theory and method. By tracing how the field has developed - from analysis of gender roles to broader studies of women's literature - the study gives new perspectives on a highly relevant period of Comparative Literature. The project turns to a wider discussion of science and ideology, and also to inquire into relationships between the women's movement of the time, federal gender-equality policies, and the academy.
