Sylvi Vigmo holds a position as a senior lecturer and researcher in education at the Department of Education, Communication and Learning. In 2010 Vigmo defended her dissertation and received a doctoral degree specializing in language didactics. Grounded in a research interest in the changing conditions for learning with digital technologies, Vigmo investigated students’ interactions and collaborative use of digital technologies in a media production. Perspectives taken in previous research have included research exploring young people’s language learning activities in social media, investigating actual uses of language that go beyond the institutional framing of what it means to know a language. Recent involvement in international collaboration includes one EU-funded research project investigating open educational resources in less used languages, two EU-funded strategic partnerships focusing on open educational practices, open educational resources in higher education and mobile technologies applied for assessing language learning activities. With a research focus on changing conditions for communication, interaction, and learning with digital technologies, Vigmo contributes to the theme “Young citizens: Literacy and participation in new media ecologies” in LETStudio 3, which is one of the prioritized research areas at the University of Gothenburg.
Vigmo’s teaching is mainly within teaching and learning in higher education, and courses linked to IT and learning. Part of her responsibilities is as a Director of studies, courses in education, national and international master’s programmes in education.
